Bio-Technology Parks

The details of present bio-technology parks operating in the country State/UT-wise with the financial assistance from by the Department of Biotechnology are as follows:-

i)      Uttar Pradesh – The Lucknow Bio-Technology Park has been established a Lucknow with the support from the Department of Biotechnology.  It has started its operations since the year 2006.

ii)    Telangana - The Hyderabad Bio-Technology Park has been established by CSIR-IICT and Government of Andhra Pradesh with financial support from the Department of Biotechnology.  It has stated its operations since 2009.

Tamil Nadu – (a) TICEL Bio-Technology Park, Chennai was established by Government of Tamil Nadu in Chennai and is in operation since November, 2004.  The Department of Biotechnology had sanctioned grant for establishing a Biotechnology Core Instrumentation Facility (BTCIF) in the Park; (b) Golden Jubilee Bio-Tech Park for Women (Siruseri, Kanchipuram District) was established by the Government of Tamil Nadu with support from the Department of Biotechnology and is in operation since 2001.

There is no provision for allocation of funds for establishment of bio-technology parks in each State.  However, based on the feasibility of setting up of a bio-technology park in a State, the Department of Biotechnology provide partial funding for setting up of bio-technology park in a State.  The details of funds provided by the Department of Biotechnology State-wise are as follows: -

The Government proposes to establish more bio-technology parks in the country.  Several State Government / Central Institutes have submitted proposals for setting up of BT Parks in States like Madhya Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, West Bengal, Gujarat and Chattisgarh.The Department of Biotechnology has re-constituted an Expert Committee to examine and to recommend proposals for setting up of new Bio-Technology Parks.  The Committee looked into the proposals received by the Department and suggested to get the project proposals of the States of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh revised.  The Committee has recommended for in-principle approval for setting up of two Bio-Technology Parks in the State of Jammu & Kashmir.
