Atomic Energy Houses

The Government has approved, in principle, following sites for setting up of future nuclear power reactors:

1. Kudankulam in Tamil Nadu – 2X1000 MWe LWRs.

2. Jaitapur in Maharashtra - 2X1000 MWe LWRs.

3. Kakrapar in Gujarat - 2X700 MWe PHWRs

4. Rawatbhata in Rajasthan - 2X700 MWe PHWRs.

LWR – Imported Light Water Reactor

PHWR – Indigenous Pressurized Heavy Water Reactor

This information was given by the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, Shri Prithviraj Chavan in the Rajya Sabha today.
