16th National Scientific Hindi Seminar on "Global Warming

Shri V.L. Chopra, Member, Planning Commission, today inaugurated the 16th Scientific Seminar in Hindi organized by the Ministry of Earth Sciences. Speaking on the occasion Shri Chopra lauded the efforts of the Ministry to popularise the Rashtrabhasha by organizing such a seminar every year. He expressed hope that rich contribution made by several speakers would help people understand the important issues related to Global Warming.

16 Scientists/Professors of various scientific and research organizations from various parts of the country participated in the Seminar and presented their papers in Hindi during the Seminar. The best three presentations were also awarded with cash prize.

Addressing the gathering Shri B.C.Mandal, Director (Official Language), Ministry of Home Affairs, emphasized the need for propagating the use of Hindi by Ministries/Departments/Officers of the Union Government. He appreciated the efforts of the Ministry of Earth Sciences for making the Seminar an annual event and also the publication of the proceedings in the form of a book. "Antarctic Abhiyaan (Rajat Jayanti)" the book containing the proceedings of last year's seminar held on 22 November, 2006 is now available.

Earlier, Dr P.S. Goel, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, in his welcome address congratulated the winners of Prithvi Vigyan Mantralaya Maulik Pustak Lekhan Yojana, 2007. The first prize of Rs.50,000/- was given jointly to Shri Shyam Sunder Sharma and Dr Rajiv Nigam for their book "Hamari Aarthik Samridhi Ki Aadhar-Monsoon”; Second prize of Rs.40,000/- was given to Dr C.L. Garg for his book "Prakratik Aapdayain Aur Vigyan" and the Third prize of Rs. 30,000/- was given to Dr DD Ojha, for "Akshay Nidhi (Prithvi Aur Sagar)". Dr. Goel said that these books will be available on the website of the Ministry
