Ways of ensuring clean energy for India’s population through multiple approaches like strengthening renewable energy sources and the hydrogen mission were discussed at the Centre State Science Conclave on September 11, 2022.
“Renewable energy is the key to a low-carbon economy, and hydrogen is emerging as a prominent source for sustainable energy ecosystem:- Shri K.N. Vyas, Secretary, Department of Atomic Energy.
“Since hydrogen is abundant, affordable, and can be produced indigenously, there lies great potential in leveraging this renewable source of energy, Dr. Ashish Lele, Director of CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory, Pune, pointed out.
Dr. AK Tripathi, Advisor, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, highlighted the necessity of a department or directorate that can coordinate with all the stakeholders working in the area of hydrogen production.
Dr. Ajit Kumar Mohanty, Directordescribed technologies like alkaline water electrolyser and spoke about lab-to-land scale-up of indigenously developed alkaline water Electrolyser as well as their transfer to HPCL, BPCL, and several other private companies to boost the net zero push.
“The transport sector is growing at a rapid rate. Decarbonization of the sector is the emerging need of an hour and can be achieved through battery electric and hydrogen fuel vehicles,” said Mr. Amit Bhatt, Managing Director, The International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT), India.
The conclave organised by the by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, jointly with the Government of Gujarat at Science City, Ahmedabad, brought together experts with their knowledge about low carbon technologies, who discussed ways to pace up their implementation in coordination with states.
