INSPIRE-SHE to encourage talented students towards science research careers without KVPY Examination

There are multiple instances of young children getting over the examination stress. To “Promote ease of doing Science”, based on the recommendations of Committee of Scientific Experts, the KVPY examination which was catering to a small group of students (~300), the program is subsumed into Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research- Scholarship for Higher Education (INSPIRE-SHE) with enhanced number of fellowships. This also minimises the burden on parents of paying additional examination fee and avoid students writing another competitive exam.

Based on an empowered Committee, represented by the leader in science, recommendations Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY), a scheme to identify students with talent and aptitude for research and encourage them to take up research careers in science has been subsumed with the INSPIRE-SHE component. The decision will do away with the high operational cost of conducting the exam and use the resources to reach out to more students. Since it was taxing on the parents of KVPY aspirants to pay hefty examination fee and only 300 fellowships per year were awarded. After subsuming the KVPY into INSPIRE-SHE, KVPY aspirants will get 2000 fellowships/year through the national Level Competitive Examinations like IIT-JEE within top 10,000 rank, NEET within top 10,000 ranks, National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) Scholars, International Olympiad Medalists, IISERs and NISERs National Level Admission Test and so on, without paying any fee. The selection process under INSPIRE SHE component is transparent and completely online.
